Back from Greece! Had a lovely time. Nice weather, nice people and of course: nice window shopping. I particularly liked all the little shops selling handmade jewellery and discovered a new trend in the ring department: pinky rings. Well, that's a trend I can get on board with very quickly. Window shopping: Waistcoats (a la Daphne Zuniga)

Remember Daphne Zuniga? Better known as Jo from Melrose place? I was fifteen when the show first aired and I thought Jo was so cool. A successful photographer, living alone, dating Jake, riding on the back of his Harley. For some reason she always wore a waistcoat of some sort. Paired with jeans and a t-shirt or, for a more feminine look, with flowery dresses. Either way, I wanted to look just like her. Luckily, in those days, I could still steal waistcoats from my dad's closet.

To this day, I still like the classic borrowed-from-my-dad waistcoat. And I also still wear the same sleeveless denim jacket I bought about 20 years ago. I just like the nonchalant effect this extra layer gives an outfit. This season I had my eye on a sparkly, gypsy looking one. Inside my closet: running gear

Although my running shoes had been in need of replacement for years now, it took the opening of a new 'Run2Day' right around the corner for me to actually try on some new pairs. In the past I have let looks decide which pair of trainers I bought, but this time I let them 'analyze my walk' and recommend which shoes would work best for me. I even got to try out a couple of pairs by running laps through the neighborhood. Luckily for me, it turned out that the best pair was not too ugly. In order to make a necessity more fun I also treated myself on some new running gear. When it comes to running gadgets I'm pretty old fashioned. Just a digital watch and some tunes and I'm good to go.

nith pick: miss nati

What I love most about the necklaces made by Miss Nati is the subtle way they complement an outfit. They might be delicate and elegant, but they still get noticed. This one, made with agate and red coral, is my favorite. Today that is. They're all so pretty it is hard to make a definite choice.

inside my closet

This month I've been preparing my wardrobe for better days (read: sunny days). My favorite thing to wear in the summertime is long skirts or dresses. It is so comfortable, but you still look like you've made an effort. I already have this maxi skirt from American Vintage in a beautiful shade of green, but since I'm blessed with a mother who can sew just about anything, I am now also the proud owner of a midnight blue and a pale aubergine version. Other new additions to my closet this month are:

  
1. My all time favorite sneakers: Converse All Stars. Courtesy of my brother-in-law who brought me back this pair from his business trip to the states. 2. I found this great tie dyed skinny and couldn't resist. 3. During my ongoing quest for the perfect white T-shirt I ended up buying this beautiful embroidered blouse. It's not a T-shirt, but who cares. 4. For my birthday I got this very cool wallet. (Officially it's a clutch, since it fits your mobile phone in the pocket, but I'm more the "tote bag kind of girl".)

In my next life I want to come back as a shopper bag

I always scan the broken furniture that piles up next to the garbage containers hoping for hidden jewels. So far, not much luck. But you always hear about people finding beautiful vintage cabinets or chairs on the street, don't you?

Someone that I know for a fact has found treasures on the sidewalk is designer Jackie Emily. Where we see an old couch with ripped upholstery, she sees: bags. That's the thing with creative people, they just need the raw materials to make something beautiful. The only thing that still reminds you of a previous life as a cast away leather couch or jacket is the tag that tells you what your new bag used to be. Now, that's what I call recycling! Vintage with a twist: The Wood-Collar

With the Wood-Collar designer Anne-Marijn has given the vintage collar a fresh new twist. It still looks great with vintage items like sweet flowery blouses, giving them a more contemporary feel, but it also really complements a more modern look. Constructed out of thin layers of wood, every piece has it own unique pattern. And to make the necklace even more versatile, the latest series of Wood-Collars have a great feature: they can be customized. The top part can be taken off, so you can either leave it open or add any of a variety of colors that can be bought separately. The Wood-Collar is now available at Nith.

Every now and then I go through these phases where I develop a preference for a certain color. I usually don't realize it at first and then all of a sudden my whole closet is filled with -in this case- green stuff. Now that I've diagnosed myself, I think the best thing for me to do is to fill my house with plants. That will cure me quick enough. But until then, these are some of my best "green finds":

Preview Spring 2013: MbyM

I've been a big fan of MbyM's basics for years. Their t-shirts and tops are made of the fabric Micromodal, known as one of the softest and lightest fibers available. The shirts come in lots of different colors and -not unimportant- are very reasonably priced. But, at "de Modefabriek" I found out it's not just basics they do well at MbyM. These are some of my favorite designs for spring 2013. And just like the basics, they feel great and are not expensive at all.  

Preview Spring 2013: Custommade

Last week I gave you a preview of the colorful American Vintage collection. Another collection that stood out with their use of color was that of Custommade. I would love to own all of these pieces, but unfortunately the price tags are a bit too steep for that. That means I have some difficult choices to make. The jeans in the top left are very cool, but the color of the dress in the bottom left is just so beautiful..

Preview Spring 2013: American Vintage

After visiting 'de Modefabriek', the fashion event where you get to see all the new collections, I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting lots of colorful clothing that would bring me in the mood for some spring shopping. Unfortunately -as it turns out- black and white is a big trend this coming season. Not exactly what I was looking for in this grey weather. I know that once the temperature goes up, I will start to appreciate this trend a lot more. After all, my closet is full of greys and blacks.

But, since I'm in need of some medicine for my winter blues, I'll start the preview Spring 2013 off with the very cheerful collection of American Vintage. I'm going to start saving for the green outfit right now.   

   

Iconic trends. Exhibit no.2: Denim

Some trends are iconic, never go out of style and are therefore always right.

Ok, I'll be honest. Some denim trends could do without a revival if you ask me. My theory is this: you only get fooled by a trend like stone wash jeans once. For those of us who've been around the first time, let's just use this unfortunate comback as an oppurtunity to reminisce about our teenage years and be very grateful the internet was not around then to save our highschool party pictures for all eternity.

WFTH

De Groningse ontwerpster Anne Varekamp van het label WFTH is al vanaf de start van Nith bij ons. En dat vinden wij meer dan leuk. Niet alleen omdat haar armbandjes niet aan te slepen zijn of omdat we gek zijn op unieke dingen (en wat is er nu unieker dan een armbandje waar je een zelf gekozen tekst op kan laten zetten?), maar ook omdat ze gewoon een ontzettend leuk mens is. 

Goed voorbeeld: Anne belde ons op met de vraag of wij niet een armbandje willen verloten onder onze facebook-"likers"? Topidee! Dus, klik op deze link en "like" onze facebookpagina. 

En als je toch aan het "liken" bent, like dan ook even Anne's facebook: WFTH! Kun je ook op de hoogte blijven van al haar nieuwtjes. Zo voorspel ik alvast dat WFTH in 2013 internationaal gaat doorbreken.
